Management on sanitary inspection behind quality of foodstuff and medicines of the USA wants to increase their knowledge about the allergens contained in cosmetics, and consumers to share experiences.
In the United States and around the world a growing number of allergens of all types, with cosmetics and personal hygiene products are often referred to as the main reason. To better understand the situation, the FDA has developed a web-based survey to consumers that will affect the whole range of categories of modern cosmetics market, including perfumes, hair care, skin care, nails and cosmetics.
“Collecting information about consumer experiences in the use of cosmetic products, especially side effects such as irritated skin or an allergic reaction, is critical to the capabilities of the FDA to effectively oversee and monitor similar products in the market,” said FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, MD.
The survey will be the first event of its kind, the previous one was held back in the last century – in 1975. First of all, a new study experience with the use of cosmetics by consumers will focus on capturing information that will improve knowledge of the causes of Allergy development. In addition, the survey will also help the FDA learn more about consumer perception of allergens in cosmetics and how these feelings influence the choice of the product.
“Through the ongoing efforts of the organization for the study of allergens in cosmetics today, we pledge offer the survey to gather information that will improve our current understanding of adverse events related to allergens in cosmetics, added Gottlieb. – To ensure collection of all necessary information, as a first step, we ask the public to contribute. The information that Management on control over foodstuff and medicines of the USA will be able to collect, will be an important step in advancing the process of reducing the impact of allergens”. It is unknown when it will be launched the survey, because first the FDA must obtain public funding.
