In the laboratories of Kao – Makeup Research Laboratories, which spetsializiruyutsya on the development of cosmetics, the researchers studied the changes that occur with age in the skin around the mouth and lips of Japanese women.
While problems with the lips in young women is well known, but how the lips and the skin surrounding them, just develop at different stages of aging, is poorly understood. Although Japanese scientists earlier this year found a way to create the perfect makeup for lips.
The most common problem – dryness and cracks on the lips, usually reach peak in 30 years. For older women have other problems: dull color, loss of fullness and increasing vague outline of the lips, which only intensified with time.
In the first part of the study, the researchers of Kao Corporation analyzed photos of the face 139 of Japanese women aged 16 to 78 years. The results show that the thickness of the upper and lower lips in the process of aging is significantly reduced. In addition, the width of the lips and the fullness of the lower lip, shown in the photo in profile was also changing for the worse. The study also showed that the area above the upper lip under the nose increases with age. A more detailed study by age group showed that these changes begin around the age of 40 years. According to experts Cao, this phenomenon is associated with changes of internal tissues, and reduce muscle tone.
In the second part of the study, Cao was attended by 13 Japanese women aged 46-55 years. At this stage, the scientists first measured, and then compared the various parts of the lips participants of the research on portrait photographs taken in 1992, 2002 and 2015. Comparison of measurement results obtained from the same participants, confirmed that with age, the lip extended horizontally, and the distance between the lips and nose also increased.
The study allowed Kao to obtain quantitative data on the phenomenon that the processes are not studied scientifically before. According to Japanese groups, these findings will contribute to the development of new cosmetic and beauty products.
