The study also showed that the area above the upper lip under the nose increases with age. A more detailed study by age group showed that these changes begin around the age of 40 years. According to experts Cao, this phenomenon is associated with changes of internal tissues, and reduce muscle tone.

In the second part of the study, Cao was attended by 13 Japanese women aged 46-55 years. At this stage, the scientists first measured, and then compared the various parts of the lips participants of the research on portrait photographs taken in 1992, 2002 and 2015. Comparison of measurement results obtained from the same participants, confirmed that with age, the lip extended horizontally, and the distance between the lips and nose also increased.
